Growing up in a Children's Home, I wanted to have a career helping people in a similar position, with PE being of interest to teach. However I was unable to do this due to a lack of academic education, so I pursued various jobs including Milk Round, Paper Round, Garage Work and Carpet shop work. As a young adult, I entered the Construction industry training as a Thermal Insulation Engineer, which then led me to various jobs in Sales, before becoming a self-employed Tiler. Throughout this, I was aware my abilities and passion for helping young people were not utilised and I was seeking to find something more fulfilling. I coached Football teams of various ages during this period. The COVID pandemic meant more Alternative Education provisions were opening up as learner needs were greater; this allowed me to enter an Alternative Education provision, firstly with 16–21-year-olds and then joining Circles in 2022. Working for Circles has allowed me to express all of my previous experience, to help young people, building trust and confidence, and teaching them to believe there is a positive future.
